My name is Triin Tohver and I am an equine veterinarian. I was born and raised in Estonia, studied veterinary medicine in Germany, worked for year and half in Canada and and then another two years in Germany.
It would be an exaggeration to say that I‘ve aspired to be a veterinarian all my life. Moreso, it was something I grew fond of gradually over time but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made.
I started riding when I was eleven years old. During my riding career that by now mostly lies in ruins, I successfully competed in both show-jumping and dressage.
I got accepted into Hannover veterinary school in 2002. During my studies in Germany I worked at the University Equine Clinic as a night assistant for one year. I graduated from Hannover in 2008. In July of the same year I was offered an internship of equine internal medicine and surgery at Moore&Company Veterinary Services, one of the largest equine clinics in Canada (www.mooreandco.com). I dare say that I learned more about equine veterinary medicine during that year than I did during the entire time of my university studies. I also learned to appreciate how exciting and challenging this profession can be. Having finished my internship I got a magnificent opportunity to be involved in some high level research. For five months I worked on a research project on inflammatory airway disease in horses under Dr.Renaud Leguillette at the University of Calgary.
In April 2010 I joined a brilliant team of specialists at equine clinic Burg Müggenhausen (www.pferde-klinik.de) in Cologne, Germany. I established and ran the clinics dentistry department offering services like standing tooth extractions and sinus surgery. I also performed MRI scans using the clinics standing Hallmarq MRI unit and assisted with orthopedic cases.
After months of planning and organizing I moved back to Estonia and launched my own equine veterinary practice in March 2012. Triin Tohver Veterinary is the first equine practice in Estonia to own a specially equipped veterinary vehicle with portable digital x-ray and ultrasound. My goal is to offer high-quality equine veterinary services following the modern standards of good veterinary practice.
